I need to talk to you about this toast.
Because the first time I made it, I genuinely thought: how is this so good? Two ingredients. Two minutes. And somehow it tastes better than the jar of Nutella I used to keep in the pantry.
Here's the thing about real Nutella: mostly sugar and palm oil. It's delicious in the way anything ultra-processed and sugar-loaded is delicious — but it leaves you crashing, craving more, and not feeling great.
This does the opposite. Happy Cacao + hazelnut butter gives you all the rich, creamy, chocolatey satisfaction — with zero refined sugar, zero palm oil, and genuine nutritional value. The cacao actually supports your mood. The hazelnuts give you healthy fats and vitamin E.
It's become one of my favorite quick snacks, and Leo and Lily are completely obsessed.
Healthy Chocolate Hazelnut Toast
Serves: 1–2 | Time: 2 minutes
Ingredients:
-
2 tsp Happy Cacao
-
2 tbsp hazelnut butter
-
Splash of plant milk to thin (if needed)
-
Your favorite bread — sourdough, buckwheat, or gluten-free all work beautifully
Instructions:
Add Happy Cacao and hazelnut butter to a small bowl
Stir together until smooth and combined
If the mixture is too thick, add a tiny splash of plant milk and stir again
Toast your bread
Spread generously. Try not to eat it straight from the bowl first.
Ways to Make It Even Better
-
Add sliced banana on top — the combination of chocolate, hazelnut, and banana is otherworldly
-
Sprinkle with cacao nibs for extra crunch and antioxidants
-
Add a pinch of flaky sea salt on top — it makes the chocolate flavor even deeper
-
Drizzle with a tiny bit of maple syrup if you want it a little sweeter
Why We Love This Snack
Beyond the taste — which is genuinely excellent — this snack is working for you in a way regular Nutella toast never could.
The Happy Cacao in the spread contains real cacao compounds that support mood and focus. Hazelnut butter provides healthy fats that keep you full and sustained. And because there's no refined sugar, you won't get the crash that follows most chocolate snacks.
It's the snack that feels like a treat — because it tastes like one — but is actually just real food.
